A Gift of Green BEAN Delivery

A few weeks ago, the fine folks at Green B.E.A.N. contacted me about some updates in the works. I reviewed Green B.E.A.N. a few years ago and concluded then that the service was useful and cost effective, so I was interested to see what was new. My brother in law and his wife recently welcomed their first baby, Lil's first cousin, into the world. They live in Saint Louis which is too far for us to support them in our usual way by making meals. Unlike flowers that fade and clothes that are outgrown quickly, new parents can always use healthy food. The email from Green B.E.A.N. came at exactly the right time because Green BEAN could deliver for us!

green bean delivery review

Ordering a gift through Green B.E.A.N. was simple. I just set up an account with my payment information and my brother in law's delivery address. I chose the organic produce I want delivered plus a few healthy treats each week. Green B.E.A.N., available in Ohio, Indiana, Missouri, and Kentucky, takes care of the rest.

The recently redesigned website features enticing photographs and descriptions of each option. Items you add to the bin are conveniently displayed on the right sidebar so you don't have to scroll up and down the page to see your total. I appreciate the methods of sorting the available foods because I can easily select vegan foods for my sister in law and see which vegetables are coming from local farms. green bean delivery options

I'm impressed with the updates to the website and the ease of ordering for my out-of-town family. The account information is easy to access and it will be easy to cancel when I'm ready. I feel good about sending my growing family some healthy, growing food.

If you want to give the gift of Green B.E.A.N. delivery or start up service yourself, use code 15HHml for $15 off your first bin through July 29.

Disclosure: Green B.E.A.N. provided one bin for my review. I purchased the gift bins myself and all opinions remain my own.

All The Details #diykitchen

finished ikea cabinet sectiondrawer pulls on ikea ramsjo The flooring, appliances, and cabinets are all set in our DIY kitchen project so now we're left with the little, annoying, time consuming details. I focused, measured, and drilled the fourscore drawer and door pulls so now the doors are functional. Alex has two of five zinc-covered counter tops installed. I replaced outlets and switches so they all matched in color and replaced all the switch plate covers. Together we cursed our way through installing a light fixture with too many moving parts over the island.

What's left? Cover panels for the sides of cabinets, toe kicks under cabinets, those three pieces of counter top, a couple more light fixtures, and all the accessories like shelves, magnetic knife bar, and artwork. I suppose I should finish painting some day too.

We are distracted by so many other more appealing tasks like working outside in the garden and cooking in our shiny new kitchen. But we'll work through the details soon and post reviews about the major elements in the kitchen.

Snow Rollers!

snow rollers columbus ohio

The weather has been brutal in central Ohio this winter. Snow, wind, frigid temperatures, more snow, and more frigid temperatures keep us rushing in from outdoor chores and not spending any extra time outside. Or so it was until Monday morning when we looked outside and saw what appeared to be snowballs littering our lawn.

Further inspection revealed that each rosette snow roll was preceded by a wispy trail like that of an airplane in the sky. Some seemed perched atop wind-carved pedestals reminiscent of sandstone formations in the desert South West.

With a gentle touch, we can scoop up the snow rollers. They're more delicate than a well-packed snowball but made a lovely snow roller girl.

Thank you, winter, for a new way to play in the snow!

2014 Themes

family photo 20132013 was a wild busy year that ended on a sad note when Devie died. Our family is completely ready to embrace the next year. Instead of setting goals, this year we're going to try to focus our activities around two themes. We want to:

Reduce

  • weight (Alex)
  • commitments that interrupt family time
  • jumping on aunties (Lil)
  • waste
  • consumption

Strengthen

  • muscles so the spring farming rush isn't a shock to our bodies
  • family bond
  • individual relationships
  • commitment to cooking with a kitchen renovation in mid spring!
  • satisfaction with what we have instead of what we want

What are your goals or themes for 2014?
