Join Me on a Family Friendly Bike Ride

I am hosting a bike ride next Monday May 11 for bike to work week. Bring the kids & meet near the wading pond at Whetstone Park to ride a short 2.5 miles along the Olentangy Bike Path to Tuttle Park. Play for approximately one hour, then head back. Campfire Columbus will provide some snacks at Tuttle.

This will be a very family-friendly ride, short and leisurely.  I hope to see you there!

What's Growing: May 4, 2009

We had a lot of rain last week and with that came inches of green sprout growth! Peas are almost 6 inches, beans and squash are leafing, kale has sprouted, spinach is on second set of leaves, and lettuce is almost big enough to eat! lettuce and onions and grass oh my

Alex finally convinced me that frost is not going to reappear until the fall so we planted the rest of our green babies outside.

not much now but we like to give tomatos lots of space

Our potted meyer lemon tree (happily outside since mid-April) has erupted with big scent heavy blossoms. I wish I had a smell-o-camera because lemon blossom is one of my favorite scents.

Raspberry bushes are getting ready to flower.

A pair of cardinals is now frequently a window bird feeder returned to us from my mom. (We bought it for her when she had knee replacement surgery, but the squirrels wouldn't stay off.) We usually watch birds at our feeders in the middle of the yard, but to see them right at the end of our dining room is especially cool.

And, today I took my first bike to "work" ride: delivering packages to the post office. Except the post office was closed for lunch when I got there, so I was able to huff back up the hill with packages too. Are you on a bike to work team?

too bad post office was closed so biking for naught

Bike to Work Week 2009 is coming!

The League of American Bicyclists promotes May as National Bike Month. Bike to Work Week is May 11 - 15. Bike to Work Day is Friday May 15. There are special events held in many communities to promote the healthy habit that is cycling. Bike to Work Week is active in Columbus OH. There is a challenge to see who can rack up the most rides in work teams from May 4 - 15. We are hosting a team for those of us who work and/or parent from home in Central Ohio.  Please join us!  We might even give away prizes!

If you aren't in Columbus, find happenings in your town through the League of American Bicyclists events listing.

Cycling to work can be a difficult routine to establish. One has to have the right equipment and feel safe on the road.  Bike to Work Week gives riders a chance to experiment with this healthy, environmentally friendly form of transportation.

Now is the time to tune up your bike, adjust your helmet, map your routes and work up to the big ride!  Alex and I are fairly experienced cylists ready and willing to help you get on the road.  Are you ready?
